Object Label Cape Henry Lighthouse, ca. 1918 Gelatin silver print (photograph) on texturized paper Since 1792 the old Cape Henry Lighthouse has stood watch over the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. A new cast iron lighthouse, completed in 1881, is located just 350 feet to the southeast of this tower. Mann published a photograph showing both lights in National Geographic in June 1918 with the title Father and Son: Cape Henry, Virginia. This print showing only the weathered historic lighthouse rising above the dunes is cropped from the larger original. Museum collection 0.868
